This week, I am featuring Helen Sherry, a San Diego artist. Helen Sherry is a contemporary mixed media artist, who works with a vivid pallet, enjoying the challenge of creating abstract impressionistic art. As she expanded her artistic range with other media, two Ohio churches commissioned her to design their stained glass windows. Her formal art training was at the Columbus College of Art and Design. A trademark of Helen's work is the exciting, colorful calligraphy expressed within the painting!
Helen has an impressive art resume. She is the recipient of the S.M. Levy Memorial Art Award, Columbus OH, Woman of Achievement Award by the National League of American Pen Women, California, the Juror's Special Award by the Poway Center for the Performing Arts and the Holbein Art Award by the California Watercolor Association, San Francisco. She is both an Arts and Letter member of the National League of American Pen Women in which she was President at both state and local levels. She is also a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, the Rancho Bernardo Art Association, Escondido Art Partnership, LaJolla Art Association and is a founding member of Phases. Helen's painting have been exhibited in national juried shows including the Columbus Museum of Art, OH, the National Press Club, Washington DC, the Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center in NY, the Scarfone Gallery, Tampa FL, George Mason University Fine Arts Gallery, Washington DC and the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego, CA.
She has also been a first place winner in national, state and local art competitions. Her love of poetry, haiku in particular, led to the publication of her two books: Colors of Haiku and Splashes.
