Any artist who starts their artistic career, it is always with a pencil. For Ray C. Brown Jr., it also started this way and still pursuing his career with the same medium. Ray has been working as an artist since he graduated from college with a B.S. in visual communications. He worked mostly as a graphic designer in the Baltimore area. Until recently, he has lived his life this way.
In 2003, an opportunity arose and Ray’s wife Maria’s career had them move to Southern California. Ray left his job and decided to live his art life the way he always wanted: the nature of graphite. Ray’s art is a reflection of his experiences in the field. He uses only his own photos and adventures as reference for his work. He especially enjoys visiting National Parks. Ray says, “ Each time I take a trip I am amazed. I get so excited to be in places like Yellowstone or Alaska, I hope some of that shines through in my art.”
