Homegirl Café

Plusieurs personnes se lancent dans le domaine de la restauration mais bien peu pensent à redonner à la communauté. Ce n’est pas le cas pour le restaurant Homegirl Café. L’entreprise donne une chance aux jeunes femmes qui sont à risque ou qui ont été membre d’une gang en leur donnant un emploi dans l’un de leur restaurants. Le restaurant offre un entrainement d’un an pour assurer un avenir à celles-ci.

Le tout a débuté lorsque la chef Pati Zarate a décidée d’engager des jeunes femmes à risque en 2004. Le restaurant offre un menu innovatif et contemporain à saveur latine sous forme de petits-déjeuners, lunchs et brunchs. Un service de traiteur est également disponible pour des évènements spéciaux.

Many people are going into the restaurant business but a few think to give back to the community. It is not the case for the Homegirl Café. The company gives an opportunity to young women at-risk or formerly gang-involved member by giving them a job in one of their restaurants. The restaurant offers a one year training program within the food and service industry.

The initiative started when Chef Pati Zarate agreed to hire homegirls to run the operations of her first restaurant in 2004. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and Saturday brunch, featuring an innovative menu of contemporary Latina fare. A catering service is also available for special events.
