Stuff the Bus

For its third consecutive year, the “Stuff the Bus” program is going on today in Capitola, at the Palace Art store, from 10 until 2. For a small $20, you can help a youth to have a nice filled school backpack.

Christine Loewe, outreach and marketing coordinator for the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County, said the partnership between United Way of Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz County Office of Education is an idea whose time has come because of budget cuts and the tight economy.

The program is targeted at low-income and homeless children in need of school supplies. Items that are needed include backpacks -- no red or blue colors -- three-ring binders, binder paper, spiral bound notebooks, rulers, pens, pencils, color crayons, colored pencils, color markers, calculators, glue sticks, shoe gift certificates and clothing gift certificates.

No need to be filthy rich to give: I am currently on disability on a tight budget and this week, I gave a $20 donation for the program. One donation at a time is better than no donation at all.

Be generous on this Saturday!

I just discovered this blog and love everything about it. The choice of topics; the desire to make the world a better place; the good photographer's eye for visuals; the love of family; and the living in the moment. It's been a while since I found the written word so consistently life affirming.
