Le monde à Wharf to Wharf / The world at Wharf to Wharf

-------------------------------------

It is this morning that the famous race Wharf to Wharf is happening from Santa Cruz to Capitola, California. Usually, I take part of it but because I am still in convalescence of my medical situation in 2009, I decided to get a rain check this year. But more than 15,000 athletes will take part of this joyful race.

Among those, there are people from California but, of course, there are others from 39 States and 8 foreign countries (Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Thailand). Most of the international racers are often special guests and are the favorites to get a podium position. Santa Cruz Track Club organization is usually taking care of hosting these elite racers.

It is the case for Ethiopian Alemtsehay Misganaw who arrived in town on Friday to take part at the race for a third time. She runs a professional race once a week. Last week, she was in Nashville et in August, she will run a half-marathon in Montreal. During her Santa Cruz stay, she is staying with Christopher Ratliff and his family. The latter have been hosting an international racer since 2006.

A neat experience that allows many to learn more about being a professional racer and their life.
