Fête du 4 juillet / July 4th Festivity

Contrairement à l’an passé, où j’avais travaillée le 4 juillet (jour de l’indépendance ici), j’ai pue amener mon fils à la fameuse parade a Aptos. Celle-çi durait environ 2 heures de temps et nous avons pu voir de nombreuses autos anciennes et des chars décorés.

Last year, I had to miss it because I was working but this year, I attended our special parade of the Independence Day in Aptos. It lasted 2 hours and we were able to see antique cars and decorated trailers.

Journee patriotique / Patriotic Day

Hier, c'était notre journée nationale patriotique. Au lieu de frequenter les grands évènements, nous sommes allés à une fête de quartier. En commençant par la parade traditionnelle de bicyclettes décorées de bleu, blanc et rouge, nous avons goûté à un festin cuit sur le BBQ.

Yesterday, it was our national patriotic day. Instead of attending big events, we went instead to a local party in a residential neighborhood. It started by their traditional biking parade decorated with the blue, red, and white colors, we ended up having a nice feast from BBQ foods.

La plus courte parade au monde / The World’s Shortest Parade

Il y a près de 50 ans, les résidents d’Aptos ont débuté une parade à tout les 4 juillet pour célébrer en grand la fête des USA. Le nombre de spectateurs a augmenté d’année en annee mais la parade est toujours demeuré courte. Aptos clame même que leur parade est la plus courte au monde.

Ayant lieu ce matin a 10 AM et n’effectuant qu’un demi-mile en distance, la parade aura pour thème “Saluons le benevolat”. Pour y avoir été pendant plusieurs années, je recommande d’arriver à l’avance pour avoir de bonnes places. Et, en plus, aujourd’hui, on annonce beau et très chaud.

About 50 years ago, Aptos residents started a parade every 4th of July to celebrate Independence Day. The attendance has increased over the years but the parade always remains short. Aptos even claim that they have the world’s shortest parade.

If you want to attend it this year, it is today at 10 AM. Being only half-mile long, this year’s theme is “Salute to Volunteerism”. I attended this event for several years and one piece of advice I can give you is to get there early to get good seats. And, lucky us, today will be sunny and warm.
