Since last night, it is the moment they have waited for: Santa Cruz County students are officially on Spring Break. No school for a full week.
This means that the parents won’t have to get up early to bring their children to school or break the afternoon routine to fetch them around 3 PM. My children will go skiing during their vacation week. Many of their friends will go on a small trip or just stay home. There are also the college students that will certainly head to the Mexico beaches and make a fiesta. I am sure many of you have seen those memorable videos made out of those crazy parties. I am certainly glad I never had the honor to be featured in those.
In the meantime, I am wishing a good Spring Break to all the students and teachers out there!

Pitoune town / Bimbo Town

It is not always a proud moment to admit that we study in an American university; there is a shameful side to it. And we are right in the middle of that moment now. This week, it is the infamous “Spring Break” for the majority of American universities. What does it mean in a nutshell?
If you are currently on vacation in Cancun, you don’t need an explanation. For the others, this is what you won’t miss: a herd of young impolite adults half-dressed, drunk from dusk ‘til dawn, and having public stripteases or drinking parties. It makes you feel embarrassed to admit to others that you too, come from the same place (i.e. United States). I am not a prude person but when you visit a foreign country, there are rules to follow. Seven years ago, we had the bad idea to go to Cancun to celebrate my birthday. Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve seen it all, my young children included.
The photos underneath are a reminiscence of what is going on there as we speak. For those who chose to not go to Cancun this year, well, you didn’t miss much. My piece of advice for pleasant vacation? If you have vacation time planned in March, just go elsewhere than Cancun.
