Depuis mon arrivée aux USA, j’ai rencontrée un grand nombre d’immigrants et tous sont venus s’exhiler ici pour réaliser leur rêves. Quelques fois, ces rêves sont facile à réaliser, d’autres fois, ils sont très difficile voire impossible à atteindre.
On appelle ça le "American dream"! Je ne suis pas une immigrante typique car je suis venue ici seule et fait mon chemin sans l’aide de personne du Canada. Pour la majorité des gens que je connais, ils sont venus en famille. Souvent, c’est le père qui voit une chance d’échapper à la misère et la pauvreté dans leur pays natal.
C’était le cas des parents de Kun “Kelly” Qian, une récente graduée de notre université locale, la University of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC). Après avoir graduée l’an dernier en histoire américaine, elle a décidée de rester une année supplementaire pour obtenir son crédit d’enseignement. Alors qu’elle s’apprêtait à célébrer sa graduation le 12 juin dernier, elle a reçue un appel qui a changée le courant de sa vie à jamais.
Ses parents, qui avaient tout abandonné en Chine pour donner à Kun une chance de réussir dans la vie, ont été impliqué dans un grave accident. Ils étaient en route pour voir leur fille graduée mais ne ce sont jamais rendu à destination. Sa mère est décédée sur la scène de l’accident et son père est décédé de ses blessures le 4 juillet dernier.
C’est une histoire qui m’a touchée droit au coeur ce matin quand je l’ai lue dans le journal local (http://www.mercurynews.com/centralcoast/ci_12774292) et je voulais la partager avec vous tous.

Since my arrival in the USA, I met numerous immigrants and all of them came here to realize their dreams. Sometimes, these dreams are easy to realize while other times, they are very hard or impossible to being come true.

It was the case of Kun “Kelly” Qian’s parents, a recent graduate of our local university, University of California in Santa Cruz (UCSC). After her graduation last year in American studies, she decided to stay one more year to complete her teaching credential. While she was getting ready to attend her commencement on June 12th, she received a phone call that changed her life forever.
Her parents, who had abandoned everything in China in order to give a better future for their daughter Kun, were involved in a terrible car accident. They were on their way to attend the commencement but never made it to destination. Kun’s mother died on the scene and her father died on July 4th from his injuries.
It is a story that went straight to my heart this morning when I read it in the local newspaper (http://www.mercurynews.com/centralcoast/ci_12774292) and I wanted to share it with you.
