Une merveilleuse attraction pour les touristes du monde entier, les perroquets de la Telegraph Hill à San Francisco font de nouveau parler d’eux. Il y a quelques années, ils étaient en vedette dans le populaire documentaire “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill”. Il y a environ 10 ans, les perroquets de cette région n’était qu’une centaine. Maintenant, ils ont triplé leur population.
C’est une bonne et une mauvaise nouvelle. La bonne nouvelle, c’est que cette attraction mondiale n’est pas prête à disparaître. La mauvaise nouvelle, c’est qu’il y a moins de bénévoles pour nourrir les oiseaux. On accuse principalement la récession d’être la cause du manque de famille d’accueil pour ces oiseaux.
Plusieurs se demandent comment ces perroquets ont atteris à San Francisco… C’est en 1989 qu’on a découvert 4 perroquets avec des anneaux à leur pattes qui passaient leur journée dans le coin de Telegraph Hill. En 1994, la population avait augmenté à 26 perroquets puis à 50 oiseaux en 1999.
On espère trouver des âmes charitables qui prendront soin dans les mois à venir de ces merveilleux oiseaux.

A wonderful tourist attraction, the Telegraph Hill parrots in San Francisco are, again, the talk of the town. A few years ago, they were featured in a popular documentary “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill”. Ten years ago, the parrots of that area were about a hundred in population. Now, they have tripled their population.
It is good and bad news. The good news, it means that this world attraction won’t be disappearing any time soon. On the other hand, the bad news is that there are less volunteers to feed the birds. We pinpoint mostly the recession to be the main cause for the host family for these birds.
Many are wondering who these parrots ended up in San Francisco… It is in 1989 that we discovered 4 parrots with tags on their legs that were spending their days in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood. In 1994, the population had increased to 26 parrots and up to 50 birds in 1999.
We hope to find charitable souls to take care of these wonderful birds in the coming months.
