À l'heure que j'écris, le feu fait toujours rage dans les montagnes de Santa Cruz. Plus de 5,036 acres sont en flammes. Le feu est maintenant le plus gros que le comté de Santa Cruz ait connu depuis plus de 20 ans.
Pour combattre ce monstre, on a eu recours a plus de 1,500 pompiers. Plusieurs routes sont fermés au public. Hier après-midi, je parlais au téléphone avec une amie qui demeure non loin de l'endroit où le feu fait rage. Elle me disait que cela sentait fortement la fumée chez-elle et que de la cendre tombait en gros nombre du ciel. Elle devait conserver les fenêtres de sa maison fermées malgré la chaleur qui prévalait à l'extérieur.

At the time I am writing, the fire is still going on in the Santa Cruz mountains. More than 5,036 acres are in flames. The fire is now the biggest Santa Cruz County has known in the past 20 years.
To fight this monster, we have the help of more than 1,500 firefighters. Many roads are closed to the public. Yesterday afternoon, I was on the phone with a friend who lives not far from the endangered area. She was telling me how much smoke was in the air and ashes were falling from the sky in her neighborhood. She had to close all her windows despite the heat that was prevailing outside.
