C’est avec surprise que j’ai apprise en revenant chez-moi hier après-midi qu’il y avait eu un tremblement de terre d’une magnitude de 8.8 au Chili samedi matin. J’ai appelée, sans succès, un couple d’ami dont le mari est originaire du Chili. Nous espérons que sa famille va bien.
Avec ce tremblement de terre, d’autres pays ont eu des alertes de tsunami. Hawaï puis le Japon ont été sur un pied d’alerte. Plusieurs plages de la Californie, dont celles dans la région de Monterey et San Mateo, ont été fermé hier après-midi après un alerte au tsunami. Les gens étaient encouragés de rester loin de l’eau. On prévoyait des vagues entre 1 et 3 pieds. A Santa Monica, il n’y a eu que de petits dommages sur les côtes.
C’est drôle mais il me semble qu’il y a un peu trop de tremblements de terre ces temps-çi…

It is with surprise that when I came home yesterday that there has been an 8.8 earthquake in Chili yesterday morning. I called, without success, a friend of mine who is Chilean to see if his relatives and friends were OK back in Chile.
With this earthquake, many countries were on a tsunami alert. Hawaii and then Japan were on alert. Many California beaches, including the ones in San Mateo and Monterey, were closed this afternoon due to possible tsunami. People were encouraged to stay out of the water. We expected 1 to 3 feet waves. At Santa Monicas, there were only little damages to the beaches.
It is funny but I believe there have been too many earthquakes lately…
