Ah, cette maudite mode! J’ai passée plus de 6 années à temps partiel à San José State University avec des étudiants qui avaient choisi le look, culotte baissé, comme une façon de se démarquer des autres. Oui, bien souvent, c’était eux qu’on retrouvait à ne rien foutre entre les classes à jouer au hacky sack. Ils n’étaient sûrement pas dans un programme compétitif comme mon programme d’animation/illustration pour avoir le temps de montrer leur sous-vêtements Fruit-of-the-loom.
Je pensais qu’avec le temps, cette mode allait passer. Un peu comme la mode des filles de montrer une partie de leur g-string. Eh bien non! Les jeunes homes aiment toujours se promener les pantalons baissés. C’est ce qui a incité Larry Platt, 62 ans, a composé une chanson sur cette foutue mode, “Pants on the Ground”. L’homme a tellement fait un hit lors de son audition pour American Idol qu’il a été invité à une émission TV et a déjà un offre pour faire un disque. C’est tout dire!

Ah, this darn fashion look! I spent more than 6 years part-time studying at San Jose State University with students who chose to have this specific look, pants lower than their butt, as a way to distinct themselves from the others. Yes, most often, it was these guys who could find hanging outside on the campus, doing nothing but playing hacky sack. They were surely not into a competitive program like mine (Animation/Illustration) to have time to waste showing off their Fruit-of-the-loom underwear.
I thought with time, this fashion statement would fade out. A little bit like the trend for girls to show off their g-string in public. Hell, no! Young men still love to stroll around with their pants on the ground. This is what inspired Larry Platt, 62 years old, to write a song about this fashion look, “Pants on the Ground.” The songwriter made a hit during his American Idol audition and was invited to do a TV show and even have a record deal offer.
