Un festival haut en couleurs! / A colorful festival!

Hier, je me suis évadée des problèmes personnelles en amenant les enfants à notre traditionelle sortie pour voir la parade nautique du festival de bégonias à Capitola.

Comme d’habitude, on s’est bien amusée. On avait notre spot secret favori. On était arrivé 2 heures à l’avance mais on a eu assez de temps pour lire, écrire ou même dessiner. Les enfants ont eu un plaisir fou à dessiner les navigateurs amateurs sur le ruisseau, entre autre, un type au torse poilu qui était sur son surfboard. L’art de regarder les gens et trouver des choses drôle à dire, c’est vraiment retomber en enfance! Je me suis permise ce plaisir hier et je n’ai pas vue le temps passer.

Yesterday, I escaped personal problems and brought the kids to our traditional outing to see the Capitola Begonia Festival’s nautical parade.

As usual, we had fun. We had our favorite secret spot to watch the parade. We arrived 2 hours ahead but we had time to read, write, and even draw. The kids had a real pleasure to draw the crowd on small boats or surfboards on the creek. Among the favorites was a older guy with a hairy chest that was floating on his surfboard. The art to watch people and find funny things to say, it is like being a child again! I allowed myself this pleasure yesterday and I didn’t see the time flying by.

Bière était le mot de cambronne pour les joyeux lurons de la Cal Poly. /

Beer was the word of the day for this Cal Poly happy-go-lucky group.

“Royal Barge” était le radeau n’un nouveau restaurant Thai de Capitola.

30 personnes ont accroché plus de 3600 bégonias sur le radeau. Impressionant! /

“Royal Barge” was the floating raft of a brand new Capitola Thai restaurant.

30 people put more than 3600 begonias on the raft. Impressive!

Le radeau “Capitola Airport Shuttle” s’est mérité une troisième place

au concours. /

The “Capitola Airport Shuttle” floating raft won third place in this contest.

Ce cerf-volant était le radeau qui, d’après moi, se mériterait la dernière place. /

This kite was a float which, according to me, would get the last place on the podium.

Ah misère! Oui, c’est bien le mot! L’idée du bateau de Peter Pan était

originale mais cette pauvre équipe en a vue de toutes les couleurs. Ils ont

lancé une poupée Peter Pan du haut d’un pont et au lieu d’atterir dans

le bateau, la poupée est tombé à l’eau. Qu’importe! En arrivant vers

le point final, tout les radeaux devaient passer sous un pont mais le mât

du bateau était trop haut. Près de 10 minutes à défaire une partie du bateau

et ils ont réussi à traverser cette dernière épreuve. Après toutes ces péripéties,

on aurait cru qu’ils se seraient mérité un prix, eh bien non! /

Ah misery! Yes, you can say it! The idea to have a floating raft like a

Peter Pan look-a-like boat was great but this poor team has seen it all on Sunday.

They had a friend sliding a Peter Pan doll from a cable on top of a bridge

but the doll ended up in the water, instead of the boat. Oh well! Before getting

to their final destination, in front of the judges, the raft had to go underneath

the bridge. However, their mast and crow nest were too high. They had

to take part of the boat apart to make it on the other side. Ten long minutes

later, they made it but all their hardship didn’t win them any prize.

L’idée du Peter Pan Volant était super mais le pauvre est atteri dans l’eau

au lieu du bateau. /

The idea of a flying Peter Pan was great but the poor guy ended up in

the water instead of the boat.

Le radeau “Precocious Paradise Pelican” s’est mérité une deuxième place

dans le concours cette année. /

The “Precocious Paradise Pelican” raft won a second place in the contest this year.

Ah, les grands gagnants d’un beau 1000$! Le groupe RiverView avec

leur radeau “Capitola Takes Flight” ont gagné le grand prix pour une

troisième annee consécutive. /

Ah the big ticket winner of a nice $1000! The RiverView group with

their “Capitola Takes Flight” floating raft won the grand prize for

a third consecutive year.

Cette charmante petite auto du groupe Best Buys était trop cute pour l’ignorer. /

This small car with a car from the Best Buys group was too cute to ignore.

Ce radeau était super! C’était une libellule fait par un groupe de 50 personnes.

Ils ont utlisés plus de 5500 fleurs pour terminer cet oeuvre. /

This raft was great! It was a giant firefly made by more than 50 people.

They used more than 5500 flowers to finish this work-of-art.
