L’art de Twitter / Twitter Art

Pour l’illustratrice Yiying Lu, sa plus populaire illustration est celle qui dépicte une surchage d’un site web. Malgré tout, son illustration a été visité par plus de 100 millions d’utilisateurs cette année.

Son illustration est celle de la baleine qui se fait amener par des oiseaux. C’est une image que Twitter utilise quand son site est surchargé d’utilisateurs. L’illustration a son lot de fans: elle a inspirée un fan club, deux partys et un tattoo.

Lu, née et élevée à Shanghai, a étudiée en science à l'école secondaire et ne faisait que des croquis que dans ses temps libres. La fameuse illustration de la baleine a été créé quand elle était étudiante en art à Sydney et à Londres. C’est en utilisant iStockphoto qu'elle a partagée son art et c'est ainsi que Biz Stone, co-fondateur de Twitter, a découvert l’illustration de Lu. Malheureusement pour cette dernière, elle n’a eue aucune commission de l’utilisation de sa fameuse illustration. Plusieurs ont copiés son art, sans sa permission.

Malgré tout, elle se concentre sur le positif. Ce mois-çi, elle fait sa toute première exposition solo, Walls360: Art for Everywhere, à l’Hôtel des Arts.

Her illustration depicts the whale being carried away by birds. It is an image that Twitter uses when their system is overloaded. The illustration has its load of fans: it has a fan club, had two parties and even a tattoo.

Lu, born and raised in Shanghai, studied technology in high school and only doodled in her spare time. It is much later, when she was studying art in Sydney and London, that the famous illustration was created. She used mainly iStockphoto to display her online portfolio and, hence, Biz Stone, Twitter co-founder, discovered the whale illustration. Unfortunately for Lu, she never got any royalties for the massive use of her illustration. Many have copied her art without her permission.

Despite all, she is focusing on the positive. This month, she is doing her first solo exhibit, Walls360: Art for Everywhere, at the Hotel des Arts.
