La maison a été initialement bâtie par William Randolph Hearst pour l’actrice Marion Davies, qui était sa maîtresse. Comme toute résidence de Hearst, la propriété est extravagante.
Aujourd’hui, la propriété est publique et ouverte à tous. On peut la visiter, se baigner dans la magnifique piscine (en saison estivale), jouer au tennis ou prendre un goûter au café attenant. Il ne faut pas avoir de gêne car, après tout, c’est ouvert à tous, c’est gratuit et le tout est d’aussi bonne qualité qu’un spa de haute gamme ou souvent il faut trois ans d’attente pour y avoir accès.
