Des oiseaux… / Birds…

If you are a true bird fan, you will love the artist I will talk about today. Chris Moroyan is a dynamo that will charm art lovers with her whimsical paintings. Despite the fact that she is multi-talented with other medias (bronze casting, welding, printmaking and stained glass), she is better known as the artist who paints birds.

Those paintings always feature bright colors and naughty birds filled the canvas. She is doing many exhibits and one of them is currently in the Santa Cruz County Government Building, on Ocean Street. Her paintings are on display Monday to Friday until August 17th.

For those of you who can’t make it, she will also take part of the famous Open Studios even in mid-October.

Kinkade en faillite! / Kinkade in bankruptcy!

A national joke at the San Jose State University's Animation department, we found out last week that the Kinkade company (that reproduces Thomas Kinkade's paintings) has filed for bankruptcy! SJSU Art professors are probably laughing out loud of Mr. Kinkade's destiny.

For many years, we were told to not adopt his painting style nor to apply to work for this man. The Kinkade Company, established in Morgan Hill, is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since last Wednesday. We think that it won't affect the professional life of the artist, probably to the great despair of my former professors. They can always hope...

Artiste en devenir! / A future artist!

Since I live in Santa Cruz, I have always been amazed to see the emerging artistic talent from my region. Often, we hear about adults who are exhibiting their art. But, after teaching years in an elementary school, I can tell you that young people have artistic talent also.

One of those young people is Hanna Seltz, a Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School student. A little while ago, she won the first prize at the 29th Annual Congressional Art Competition. Her painting, “Buejuv, Zanzibar”, made her win a $1,500 renewable scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design and two round-trip tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend a ceremony to honor her.

Congratulation Miss Seltz!

Cause social en peinture / Social causes in painting

Sous la surface / Under the surface

Unexpected twist for the art theft!

Well, since the story of the stolen paintings in the region of Monterey, California, there is not a single day where we don’t hear of that story. So, now we are turning the tables around and we are accusing the two so-call owners, Angelo Amadio and Dr. Ralph Kennaugh, to have made up that whole story.

There is no formal accusation so far. However, there are lots of contradictions in the story of stolen artwork. The police authority even think that the stolen paintings could even not exist. Amadio couldn’t recall which paintings were insured and which ones are not,

What a confusing story to follow in the next weeks…

Note d’extorsion / Extorsion Note

In the saga of the stolen paintings at a Carmel house this week, they found an extortion note while looking more carefully. The note demanded money as well as death threat. It is now leading to other conclusions where would be the paintings as many thought the artworks were already in the hand of anonymous buyers.

The extortion note was taken very seriously because the owners, Angelo Benjamin Amadio and Dr. Ralph Kennaugh, have increased more securities around the house they are renting since two months.

According to art experts, the value of the missing artwork could reach $60 to $80 million.
