Last Saturday, my daughter Savannah was invited at a classmate’s birthday party. All the invited girls went to an art studio, The Art Factory, located in Aptos, California.
The studio, founded by an artist friend, Yvette Contois, is the haven for many artist students who have a deep interest in art. They are offering classes using different mediums such as pastel, collage, colored pencils, painting, tempera, watercolor and much more. The school offers classes to adult and children.
During her Saturday afternoon, Savannah created a lovely collage featuring a bird. We are expecting to hang her work-of-art on the wall this week. Isn’t it charming?

Couper coller / Cut and Paste

During this recession time but also with a global warming conscience, it is great to create but also recycle at the same time. Randel Plowman understood that and this artist makes and publishes on his blog (acollageaday.blogspot.com) one collage a day.
His collages (4 X 4), are made within an hour time, are sold 25$ on his web site as well as his Etsy store (rplowman.etsy.com).
A nice creative way to recycle and earn some money at the same time!

La troisième fois, c’est du charme! / Third time is a charm!

Everybody recall all the pression we had, as teenagers, to pick a career in secondary 4. We had to do a bunch of tests to see where we fitted best. Hairdresser or astronaut?
Well, these tests don’t always work the way we want. Kim Smith could tell you more about that. After being manager and banker, she decided, in 1998, to take $20K of her savings to see traditional German pewter. This didn’t turn out well but she decided to stick to the art business. She founded Smith & Company (http://www.studiokimsmith.com/Default.asp), where she is selling her new passion: collages.
When we are not happy in life, it is worth it to take risks to achieve our goal.
