Elizabethan

Yesterday was not a resting day with our dog that was limping and started to have a sore spot on his back. So, a little emergency trip to the vet and we fixed the problem.

The worst for our dog: the Elizabethan collar he has to wear during 2 weeks! Poor him!

FRED

Would you trust a brand new veterinarian to cure your sick pet? Perform on him a delicate surgery? A vet thought of a new way to train new veterinarians by performing healthcare on a dog almost realistic without causing permanent damages. She created Fred. Fred is a Goodwill plush dog that was slightly modified to have an inside body similar to real life dogs. Her students perform "fake" surgeries so they can practice their surgical skills.

A neat invention that, I am hoping, will expand throughout this continent in the near future...

Une autre fermeture… / Another closing…

Notre vétérinaire, Dr. Craig Evans, a catégoriquement refusé de me l’émettre.

There is not a week where I don’t see in the local newspaper a company folding up. We’ve seen this wave of bankruptcies for the past 2 years. Yesterday, I found out that it is the turn of our veterinary to close its door today.

I can understand it is sad to end the life of a company after so many years (30 years in the case of our vet) but in the case of a medical profession and especially in our veterinary’s case, Adobe Animal Hospital, they had more than 28,000 animals as patients. When they took the decision to close their door, they could have called or announced the news to their patients’ owners. It would have been really nice… But no! I lived a similar situation when my first family doctor changed profession. I remember she sent a letter to all of her patients to warn them about her departure.

Yesterday, I dropped by the vet office to get all my pets’ records and there were lots of people lining up. One of my dogs has to take medication for the rest of its life. Therefore, I kindly asked to have a written prescription so I could order the medication online from now on. I was greatly disappointment that Dr. Craig Evans, our vet, refused to give us the prescription.

When I walk out of the clinic, I didn’t have any regret that it is closing. We don’t play around with the health of people or loving pets. That’s all!
