Le symbole Américain / The American symbol

Well, if you would have asked me the question which corporate institution represent the most America, I would have surely answered a Silicon Valley company that help to revolutionalize the Internet world, such as Google.

Google arrived good second, behind… Wal-Mart! Almost half of the respondents (48%) from a 60 minutes/Vanity Fair survety (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/28/business/media/28vanity.html) done in August picked the mega-store to be the corporate symbol of America. The survey result has surprised many people.

Other corporations in nomination were Google (15%), Microsoft, N.F.L., and Goldman Sachs.

So, it looks like Bill Gates has lost some of his luster in the past years…

On devient plus Hindou! / We are becoming more Hindus!

A recent poll surveyed by the prestigious magazine Newsweek reveal that, conceptually, Americans are slowly becoming more like Hindus and less like traditional Christians in the ways they think about God, themselves, each other, and eternity.

The Hindu community is, apparently, pleased to see that their religion is increasingly becoming popular. The Harris 2008 poll also mentions that 24% of Americans believe in reincarnation and more than a third choose cremation upon their death.

The Hindu religion was unknown to me until last January when, by pure coincidence, I ended up with dozens of new pen-pals from India who happened to be Hindus. There is even one of them that convinced me to occasionally pray Lord Krishna and I have now a little frame with a collage, including a picture of Lord baby Krishna in it.

Each religion has its own beauty and Hinduism is part of it. To know more about this poll, visit the following link: http://www.newsweek.com/id/212155
