Concert gratuit / Free concert

The musical pleasure continued yesterday afternoon with a free concert for the whole family. A wonderful initiative from the Cabrillo Contempary Music Festival to make children appreciate music from all its angles. Lucky like I am, the group have played, once again, the Saturday night musical hit, “Spices, Perfumes, Toxins!”

The event started with a tour guided to see all the musical instruments. We were able to meet many musicians that come from all over United States. I particularly liked all the trombones and trumpets musicians and the harpist. For a moment. I dreamt to play this wonderful instrument that is the harp. I am not the only one who is fascinated by this elegant instrument.

A wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Une soirée magique! / A magical evening!

Last night, we went out in family to see the concert “Spices, Perfumes, Toxins!” in the series of concert held by the “Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.”

In a word, wonderful! The evening was divided in three parts but the music by composer Avner Dorman (http://dormanavner.com/) has blown off my mind. Influenced by the Middle-East music, more specifically India, I have let myself being transported during the concert. The piece by conducted by international conductor, Marin Alsop (http://www.marinalsop.com). Two invited artists, Galen Lemmon (http://www.music.sjsu.edu/music/faculty-and-staff/galen-lemmon) and Steve Hearn (http://www.cabrillomusic.org/2009/steve-hearn.html) played percussions. They had learnt by heart the piece and were traveling from one instrument to the next with ease. It was as if they had played this musical piece all their life. Even my kids were impressed!

I hope we will hear again from composer Avner Dorman. Really, he is a talent to follow!
