You love maps and art? You are not alone. California artist Ben Joyce also shares this love. This young father of two daughters discovered his niche while studying art in Florence, Italy. He realized at what point local residents were proud of the place they were living, where the inspiration to create his series “Abstract Topophilia.”
I discovered this artist because many of his artworks are hanging on the walls at work. His paintings are very colorful and represent abstract landscapes. The goal of his paintings is to unite people with the memory of their favorite places. His art collectors are from London, New York, L.A., San Francisco, Coeur D’Alene, Miami and Palm Desert.
“I am inspired by people across the world and their bond to the places they live, have lived and travel. Maps can be so powerful, when one takes time to really immerse themselves into the actual layout of a location; the history, emotions, experiences, and memories quickly come back,” said Ben Joyce.
A colorful world to discover!

Eureka Cartography

Map fans, you will be spoiled with my blog today. I am writing about a company, located in Silicon Valley, that specializes in maps. Eureka Cartography, that exists for a good number of years now, makes maps for a varied clientele, whether it is for individuals or companies or even government agencies.
The company, founded 17 years ago by two cartographers, Mark Williams and Stace Wright, has seen the world of maps evolved since its very beginning. While in the late 80’s people were doing maps solely by hand, the company is now using a mapping software, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to help out with the workload. The two cartographers agree that they are still doing some of the work by hand, still.
Both of the them said that since their childhood, they never lost their passion for road maps.

Le monde selon... / The World according to...
Hummmm...

On this Friday morning, a little bit of humor. As we already know, Americans love to be superior to others. They have their own opinion regarding what the other countries represent on our beautiful planet.
So, here are two amusing world maps. And then, American people will wonder why so many people around the world hate them... Hummm...
